SHERWOOD, Mrs. [Mary Martha]. The stranger at home.

London. Printed for Houlston and Son, 1830.
12mo. 65pp, [5]. With an engraved frontispiece and two final leaves of publisher's advertisements. Original publisher's green paper-backed printed buff paper boards. Extremities worn and marked, loss to spine, pen-trials to upper board, lower board held by cords only. Upper margin of first leaf of text shaved, two early manuscript corrects to text, inked gift inscription to verso of RFEP.
The apparently unrecorded and presumed first edition of what would prove to be a popular conduct of life tale by prolific children's author Mary Martha Sherwood (1775-1851). The book explores the melancholy of youth and the consequences of obstinacy and vanity, whilst deftly examining the relationship between parent and child and the folly of disobedience.
