The souvenir programme of the first Glasgow Musical Festival, held in aid of the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and the Asylum for the Blind, mounted as a result of the success of Triennial Festivals held in England. The programme details all of the performers and provides the libretto for each of the four concerts, including a production of the oratorio Elijah, composed by Mendelssohn, a work commissioned specially for the inaugural Birmingham Triennial Musical Festival (1846), for which he was paid 200 guineas.
