[s.i.]. [s.n.], [s.d.c. 1850?]

A mid-nineteenth century commonplace comprised of manuscript transcriptions of poetry, including selections from Swift, Milton, and Pope; numerous hand-drawn and engraved illustrations, often humorous in nature; and three lithographed illustrations of Malta by German-Danish artist Charles Frederick de Brocktorff (d. 1850) - 'Costume of Malta', 'Bird's Eye View of Valetta & its Environs' (with manuscript key captions), and 'Auberge de Provence' (additionally captioned in pencil 'Strada reale, Malta').

Brocktorff emigrated to Malta in 1810, opening a studio in Valetta where he produced landscapes of the island and depictions of the Maltese for the tourist market and members of the British armed forces stationed there. His sons, Luigi and Giovanni de Brockdorff, became prominent lithographers.
