W.S. Lewis' copy of the first edition of a curious poem addressed to the members of the 'Tuesday Nights' Club' by a professed 'Philocosm And Late Hairdresser to the said Society', identified as Ellis Pratt, M.D. The author's deft verse led to speculation over his actual profession - the 1770 edition of Tobias Smollett's The Critical Review, Or, Annals of Literature, commented that 'the author of it should never have been a hairdresser...the man who can write such fine verses, should never have thrown away his time on adjusting the inferior and insignificant elegance of a coxcomb'.
