A handsome and early example of commercial photographic works published for the tourist trade, produced by Ilfracombe photographer James Stoyle Catford (1846-1916). An influential figure in the early commercial photographic world, and the English pioneer of landscape photographic postcards, Catford's Ilfracombe based business opened in the 1860s, and continued to operate until the early 1890s.
The 22 images here, each captioned in manuscript, include views of Ilfracombe, Watermouth, Lynton, Lynmouth and Clovelly.
