STEPHEN, Geo. A. Music and Musical Literature: an annotated and classified catalogue of music and works on music and musicians in the norwich public libraries.

Norwich. Public Libraries Committee, 1924.
8vo. [6], 58pp, [2]. Original publishers red cloth-backed printed light-blue paper boards. Rubbed and sunned. Inked initial 'RCF' to FEP, very occasional pencilled notes.
A catalogue of the music sections of Norwich Public Libraries, published to coincide with the centenary of the Norwich Triennial Musical Festivals.

The first library in Norwich was the Norwich City Library, established in 1608, under the control of the Norwich Municipal Assembly. At first only a reference library by subscription, in 1716 the Assembly allowed books to be borrowed. Control was relinquished in 1801 to the 'Public Library', (established in 1784). The latter was in fact a private subscription library, now known as the Norfolk and Norwich Library. Owing to differences between the City authorities and the Subscription Library, the City library was passed back and forth twice between public and private control. In 1862 it passed finally to the Norwich Free Library (now the Norwich Public Libraries), established under the Public Libraries Act 1850.
