Original publisher's maroon cloth-backed pictorial yellow paper boards. Rubbed and marked, spine sunned, corners bumped. Leaves working-loose of binding.
The first edition in English of a remarkably charming publication comprised of twenty finely executed vignettes by artist Lorenz Frölich (1820-1908) illustrating a day in the life of his infant daughter Lily.

A translation of La journée de Mademoiselle Lili, initially published by Pierre-Jules Hetzel (1814-1886) in 1862, the book was received favourably by The Times (28th May, 1863): 'This is simply one of the most delightful young mother's books we have ever seen.'
