Contemporary gilt-tooled half-calf, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece. Extremities heavily rubbed, spine sunned. Marbled endpapers, horizontal tear to leaf U4 - touching text without loss - occasional short tears to plates, advertisement leaves shaved, scattered spotting.
A revised edition, printed in the same year as the first, of writer and literary imitator William Combe's (1742-1823) immensely popular comic satire of William Gilpin's theory of the picturesque in art.
