The three novellas first appeared in various editions of Playboy Magazine, submitted by prolific American novelist, playwright and screenwriter Irwin Shaw (1913-1984) - this is their first appearance in book form. Blacklisted in the McCarthyism era, Shaw left the US for Paris and Switzerland in 1951 and continued writing to great acclaim.
