[SIDEY, James Archibald]. Remollescences of a Medical Student: with an anthropophology of the author and a physician's holiday.

Edinburgh. Maclachlan & Stewart, 1886. First edition.
Quarto. [8], 54pp, [2]. With a half-title, a real photograph frontispiece, and 80 engraved illustrations in the text by John Smart and Charles Doyle. Original publisher's gilt-stamped green cloth, A.E.G. A trifle rubbed and marked. Internally clean and crisp.
The sole edition of Edinburgh-based physician James Archibald Sidey's (1825-1886) posthumously published whimsical facetiae composed for, and read by him at the meetings of the Monks of Saint Giles literary society.

Founded in 1852 and continuing to this day, the establishment of the society was due primarily Sidey's efforts, who had previously formed the Young Edinburgh Club in 1825, from the ashes of which the new organisation emerged. Upon attaining membership, each 'Monk' is given a monastic name by which they are known to their fellows and under which their contributions to the 'Reminiscences' are made.
