The sole edition of of an account of an attempt to establish a mission at Mandalay, Burma in 1887. The author discusses the people and customs of the region, the British influence in the Shan States, the history of the 'pacification' of Upper Burma, and, more specifically, the consumption of intoxicants by the populace, namely liquor and opium, and the need for temperance reform.
