The second edition, printed in the year after the first, of United States Navy office Horatio Bridge's (1806-1893) narrative of his service aboard the USS Saratoga with the mission to curtail the transport of enslaved people from the west coast of Africa aboard American vessels. Bridge was the patron of celebrated novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864) who edited this volume.
