A handsomely bound copy of a collection of essays on the sciences intended for a juvenile readership, with contributions from physicist and chemist Heinrich Buff (1805-1878) and geologist Carl Bernard von Cotta (1808-1879), compiled by poet and children's writer Hermann Kletke (1813-1886).
From the library of Exbury House, Hampshire, recently dispersed. Exbury House was acquired by Banker and politician Lionel Nathan de Rothschild (1882-1942) in 1919 and remains in the family to this day. Many of the books in the library were inherited from Alfred de Rothschild (1842-1918) of Halton Estate, notably considered one of greatest art collectors of his day.
