8vo. xxxi, [1], 202pp. Contemporary half-calf over marbled boards, contrasting morocco lettering-piece, gilt. Rubbed, neatly rebacked, with much of the original spine laid down. A large paper copy, with generous margins.
James Hogg (1770-1835), Scottish novelist, essayist and poet widely known as the Ettrick Shepherd, although interestingly he used the epithet 'The Mountain Bard' on the title page of most works subsequent to this. He was friend of Walter Scott, who prefaced this work as well as being it's dedicatee.
