8vo. xviii, [2], 183, [1], 35, [1], 38, 40pp. With an engraved frontispiece, two folding diagrams, and two plates. Original publisher's blind-stamped navy cloth, lettered in gilt to upper board. Lightly rubbed, spine dulled, corners bumped. Later bookplate of C. A. Cuthbert Keeson to FEP, without FFEP, offsetting to title page, very occasional light spotting. Presentation copy, inked inscription to head of title page: 'To William Roupell Esq. M.P. / with the Author's compliments'.
A revised and enlarged edition of a survey of volunteer riflemen, published in aid of the volunteer movement. Its author, John Boucher, commanded the the 1st Surrey (South London) RVC, and was formerly of the 5th Dragoon Guards.

This copy was presented to William Roupell (1831-1909), an English politician who became embroiled in a notorious forgery case that alleged Roupell had fraudulently conveyed himself an estate and destroyed his father's will.
