Charles Arthur Whitmore Monckton (1873-1936), was a New Zealander magistrate, colonial officer, explorer, and writer who spent much of his early career in 'the furthest outpost of the Empire' - New Guinea. Monckton contributed to various scientific journals throughout his career across zoology, geography and sociology, though his several books on his time in New Guinea, serve as a racy narrative on his life and adventures, rather than 'possess any scientific value'.
