[London].
[Waring & Gillow], [1920].
Folio.
Typescript and manuscript on paper. [3], 64ff. Contemporary blind-tooled green morocco, lettered in gilt to upper board. Lightly rubbed and marked, spine dulled. Two leaves detached.
A typescript register recording the valuation, for the purposes of insurance, of the contents of the Devonshire property of British Army officer Otto Leopold Trechmann (1884-1950).
The extensive inventory indicates the thoroughness of the valuers in executing their engagement; every item that could potentially be removed from the house is catalogued, from the from the 'wine and consumable stores' to 'wearing apparel', on down to an 'Ozier waste paper basket' (six shillings). However, considerably less detail is provided for Trechmann's books (predominantly confined to the dining room, though some 'about the house'), with the valuers content in the majority of instances to record them simply as 'various'; the exceptions including, inter alia, seventeen volumes of 'Dickens' works - cloth', twelve volumes of 'Fielding's works - half calf with gilt edges', and 'History of Durham'.
The appraisal of the property, conducted by London-based furniture manufacturers and antique dealers Waring & Gillow, resulted in a total valuation of £9,374; with the books comprising a comparatively paltry £223 towards that figure.
