An early nineteenth century Milanese edition of Renaissance humanist Leon Battista Alberti's (1404-1472) seminal treatise on perspective; once the property of author, politician, and patron of art George Agar-Ellis (1793-1833).
Agar-Ellis, an avid collector, published numerous works on art history. He was a trustee of both the British Museum and the National Gallery, In 1832, he was elected the president of the Royal Society of Literature.
