LITHOGRAPHED, WITH ORIGINAL SWATCHES

HOLMES, James. Manuscript notes on weaving: third year.

[Burnley?]. [s.n.], [1914].
Quarto. [92] leaves, printed on one side only. Lithographed throughout. With 48 mounted cloth swatches, one sample detached, evidently at least one sample absent. Original publisher's dark green pebbled cloth, lettered in gilt to upper board 'Manuscript Notes on Weaving by James Holmes M.S.A. Third Year'. A trifle rubbed and marked. Decorated endpapers, Scattered spotting.
A lithographed facsimile of the author's manuscript, designs, and illustrations evidently compiled for the use of students during a three-year course on the art of weaving.

The text discusses and illustrates various methods employed to produce varieties of weave; and the cloth samples frequently correspond with the weave patterns shown in the author's diagrams.

Intriguingly, institutional records show separately issued editions for the first year and the second and third years combined. This edition comprised only of the author's notes for his third year is seemingly unrecorded.
