A collection of 'Devotions' collated by Bishop Lancelot Andrewes (1555-1626), and edited and revised by Edmund Venables (1819-1895), English cleric and antiquarian. Lord almoner and dean of the chapels royal under James I and Charles I, Andrewes gained a reputation as a master of rhetoric, famously preaching sermons on successive anniversaries of the foiled Gunpowder Plot.
