A pamphlet collecting responses on the massacre of St Bartholomew, or the slaughter of the Huguenots, by Richard Monckton Milnes, 1st Baron Houghton (1809 – 1885). Milnes, a member of the famous Apostles Club at Cambridge which included Alfred Lord Tennyson and Arthur Hallam among its members, was known for his staunch commitment to social justice, supporting causes such as women's rights and the abolitionist movement whilst being respected for his relaxed temperament and good temper.
