A satirical novel from the brothers Augustus (1826-75) and Henry (1812-87) Mayhew, illustrated by eminent British caricaturist George Cruikshank. Henry Mayhew, one of the founders of Punch Magazine, was also known as a social researcher and reformist, whilst his brother Augustus was a journalist and editor of The Comic Almanac between 1848 and 1850.
