London.

The new edition, printed in the same year as the first, of Owen Ruffhead's (1723-1769) biography of Alexander Pope, commissioned by Bishop William Warburton. Ruffhead's resulting work was widely read, running through four editions in its first year, but was criticised for a lack of critical value, with Johnson remarking that Ruffhead knew 'nothing of Pope and nothing of poetry'.
