Contemporary dark green half-calf, tooled in gilt and blind, marbled paper boards, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece, marbled edges. Rubbed, spine dulled. Marbled endpapers, plates browned, latter half of text-block dampstained, scattered spotting.
A revised and extended edition of an early English study of phrenology, first published in 1824 by George Combe (1788-1858), a pioneer in the promotion of the pseudoscience.
