Macpherson' to head of title page; Emma Macpherson, mother of Sir William Charles Macpherson (1855-1936), civil servant in India, member of the Bengal Legislative Council (1902-11), and the Board of Revenue of Calcutta (1906- 11).
The sole edition of an early first-hand narrative of the siege of the garrison of Lucknow during the 1857 Sepoy Rebellion. Adelaide Case, recounts with vivd detail the horrific circumstances of the five-month ordeal, most notably the death of her husband Colonel William Case of the 32nd Queens Regiment.
