A sammelband of eighteen late nineteenth-century pamphlets predominantly concerning matters devotional, moral, and philosophical.

The volume includes the second and final edition (printed in the year after the first) of Aberdonian Church of Scotland clergyman Alexander Webster's essay on poet Robert Burns and his influence on the religious and social regeneration of the people of Scotland; three theosophical pamphlets by socialist, women's rights activist, and educator Annie Besant (1847-1933); and Concerning the Devil, a remarkably rare analysis of portrayals of Satan by prominent secularist and editor of The Agnostic Journal and eclectic Review William Stewart Ross (1844-1906).

Provenance: William Diack (1871?-1942), journalist associated with the Aberdeen Free Press and Evening Gazette, sometime secretary of the Aberdeen Socialist Society, and author of History of the Trades Council and the Trade Union Movement in Aberdeen (1939).
