The second edition of a report covering the trial and sentencing of Dr. E. W. Pritchard (1825-1865), an English doctor convicted of poisoning his wife and mother-in-law with antimony and aconitine. The last person to be executed publicly in Glasgow, Pritchard became a notorious figure in popular culture, with the villain of the Sherlock Holmes short story The Adventure of the Speckled Band describing him as being at 'the head of his profession' - the profession in this case being murder.
