Original publisher's gilt-decorated green cloth boards, lettered in gilt to spine, A.E.G. A trifle rubbed, with slight bumping to head and foot of spine. Some spotting throughout.
The first edition of a study on Shakespeare's historical representation by essayist and novelist James Hain Friswell (1825-1878).

Joseph Cundall (1818-1875), Cundall was one of the twelve founder members of the Photographic Club in 1847, and assisted in founding the Photographic Society in 1853. His clients included creatives as eminent as Lewis Carroll, for whom he stored negatives. He would work in various partnerships throughout his career - during the publication of this volume, he was collaborating with George Downes (c.1822-1879)
