An attractively bound copy of the first edition of an account on Glasgow's culture and industry, with a particular focus on the working people's democracy and camaraderie. The author, 'James Hamilton Muir ' is actually a pseudonym denoting a collective of three Glaswegian creatives - the artist Muirhead Bone (1876-1953), the international lawyer Archibald Charteris (1874-1940), and the journalist James Bone (1872-1962). The work, clearly written with immense local pride, sees each author lending his own expertise - the multitudinous engravings, of Muirhead Bone's hand, are complimented by James Bone's experience in the shipbuilding industry, and his pride in Glasgow's steam navigation.
