A revised edition of a study of Glasgow's society and manners by Scottish writer John Strang (1795-1863), first published in 1855, and revised a third time in 1864. Strang, City Chamberlain of Glasgow for thirty years from 1834, also contributed the article on 'Glasgow' to the eighth edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica.
