An influential Latin textbook by Valencian scholar and humanist Juan Luis Vives y March (1493-1540), widely recognised as the 'father' of modern psychology, and also lauded for his contributions to pedagogy. His theories of education may have influenced the essays of Montaigne and Rousseau, and his employment extended to the education of monarchs. This volume, constructed as a series of dialogues, was Vives' most popular work, receiving extensive use in schools across Europe.
