The first edition of a comprehensive peerage of Scotland compiled by Sir Robert Douglas of Glenbervie, 6th Baronet (1694-1770). The first complete Scottish peerage since George Crawfurd's in 1716, Douglas sent manuscript copies of his completed volume to the holder of each peerage listed for corrections. In the preface, he announces his intention to develop a future 'baronage' of Scotland, and would declare in 1767 that it had reached the press. Alas, he would never see its publication - his death in 1770 delayed the finished print release for a further 18 years, finally reaching the public in 1798.
