Contemporary calf-backed mustard cloth boards, lettered in gilt to spine. Rubbed and marked, with surface loss to joints and spine. Very occasional light spotting, otherwise internally clean and crisp.
The limited large paper edition of Walter Baynham's (1832-1916) history of The Glasgow Stage. Baynham, a former tutor at the Glasgow Athenaeum, was respected for his lectures on Dickens and Shakespeare. This study, dedicated to stage actor and friend of the author Sir Henry Irving (1838-1905), is a comprehensive record of the play-houses, players and dramatical productions in the City of Glasgow since the days of early Church theatre.
