The first edition of a selection of 'Sentimental and Practical Theology' translated by John Jones, who dedicates his work to Lady Maria Christiana, Baroness Arundell. The anonymous author, identified only as the Chevalier de Lasne d'Aiguebelle, aspires in the preface to the acquisition of true happiness, or 'the most universal, and the most eager search of the human heart'. The book is divided into two sections: the 'sentimental theology' covers the spiritual relationship between happiness and faith, whilst the 'practical theology' consists of prayers, duties and devotional guidance distributed throughout one's day.
