The first edition of actor and printer William Oxberry's (1784-1824) edition of Shakespeare's Macbeth; 'the only edition existing which is faithfully marked with the stage business, and stage directions, as it is performed at the Theatres Royal'.

Oxberry commenced his New English Drama series in 1818, issuing plays as both separate titles and in collections of twenty or twenty-two volumes up to 1826. Oxberry provided prefatory remarks and commentaries for many of the books in the series, though on occasion enlisted the assistance of literary contemporaries, notably William Hazlitt who contributed eighteen.
