8vo. [4],14,17-384pp. Each work has its own title page. With 10 engraved plates, including one fold-out illustration. Unpressed in contemporary blind-stamped sprinkled calf, contrasting gilt-tooled red leather lettering-piece. A trifle rubbed and marked, with slight wear to joints, loss to head of spine, upper joint starting. Inked shelf mark and armorial bookplate of William Hanbury of Kelmarsh, Northamptonshire to FEP. Light browning to FEP, otherwise internally clean and crisp.
The first collected edition of the works of poet and writer Charles Cotton (1630-1687), containing the tenth edition of 'Scarronides', the third editions of 'Burlesque upon Burlesque: or, the Scoffer Scoft' and 'Wonders of the Peake', and an unspecified edition of the 'Planters Manual'. A burlesque writer in reputation, Cotton was also recognised for his translations of Montaigne, and his passion for fishing, particularly in the Peak District, which formed the basis of his guide to fly-fishing, The Compleat Angler.
