A playful comedy by Irish playwright and spy for the British government Leonard McNally [or MacNally] (1752-1820). McNally, a member of the United Irishmen, turned informer after his role was discovered by the British Government, and was revealed after his death to have been one of the most successful spies in history. As well as plays, he wrote a considerable number of lyrics, songs and operettas, with the most successful being his Sweet Lass of Richmond Hill, reportedly a favourite song of George III.
