A significant work on Ancient Athenian sculpture by English archaeologist Humfry Payne (1902 – 1936), which solidified his reputation as one of Britain's most promising young excavators. The study, completed during his time as Director at the British School at Athens, established several new connections between sculptured parts in French museums and those held at the Acropolis. He was assisted in the volume's composition by his student Gerard Mackworth-Young (1884 – 1965), who would take up the Directorship of the school after Payne's tragic death at only 34 years old.
