The sole edition, in original state, of Austrian bookseller Gottlob Heinrich Heinse's (1766-1813) historical narrative the reign of Ludwig II, Landgrave of Thuringia (1128-1172).
A prolific, though now largely forgotten author, Heinse wrote numerous historical novels, many mirroring the style of his contemporary Friedrich Christian Schlenkert (1757-1826). During his most productive years between 1786 to 1793 he published twenty-three novels in forty-six volumes; with thirteen in twenty-five issued in 1791 and 1792 alone.
