A report concerning the condition of the timber forests of Western Australia, compiled by Surveyor-General Malcolm Fraser (1834-1900), including remarks and suggestions on the future conservation of timbered lands, and a reprint of regulations and laws regarding renting or leasing of such land.

The second part, considered by Fraser to be an invaluable contribution to the subject, is a reissue of Government Botanist of the Colony of Victoria Ferdinand von Muller's Report on the forest Resources of Western Australia (1879); a detailed survey of the Jarrah woodland of the region, with proposals for their enrichment and preservation.
