The second edition, finely bound, of Scottish writer Grace Kennedy's (1782-1825) most renowned novel; a controversial tale of a suffering Jesuit minister written from a Protestant viewpoint. First printed in 1823, the work reached a twelfth edition by 1858, and was translated into several European languages.
