A fine 'presentation copy' of the detailed catalogue produced for the 1911 Scottish Exhibition of natural history, art and industry held in Glasgow. The first trade edition was issued in two volumes shortly afterwards. The third of four international exhibitions held in Glasgow during the late Victorian period, the fair, which attracted over 9.3 million visitors, featured numerous cultural and industrial artefacts, but drew criticism for its inclusion of human exhibits, including a 'village' of Highlanders, and displays of people from Lapland and West Africa, including several children. The fair's profits allowed for the creation of a Chair of Scottish History and Literature at the University of Glasgow, first offered to Scottish historian Sir Robert Sangster Rait (1874-1936).
