Alan Cooper is a retired cavalry man and R.A.F. historian who has written extensively on the both the 617 squadron and the wider aerial history of the Second World War.

Wing Commander Guy Gibson, VC, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar (1918 - 1944) was one of the most distinguished British bomber pilots in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, and first CO if the 617 Squadron, the "Dam Busters". Awarded the Victoria Cross shortly after Operation Chastise, Gibson became the most highly decorated British Serviceman at the time.
