A popular report on the trial of boxer John Thurtell (1793 – 1824) by journalist and popular writer Pierce Egan (1772–1849), famed for his enormously successful journal, Life in London (1821-1828). Such was his fame that even his subject Thurtell, convicted of the brutal murder of solicitor William Weare, reportedly desired to read Egan's coverage of a recent prizefight as he sat in Death Row.
