An early edition of an anonymous tract dissecting the draft Convention of Pardo between Britain and Spain, later attributed to British scientist, mathematician and engineer Benjamin Robins (1707 – 1751). One of three Tory-affiliated political pamphlets published by Robins in 1739, the work criticises the planned measures as being borne of 'Meekness and Condescension'. The Convention itself, having proven extremely unpopular among London's merchant classes, was never ratified; its failure resulted in the War of Jenkins' Ear, which began on 23 October 1739.
