The first edition of the collected poems, essays and correspondence of Lieut. Bernard Pitt (1881-1916), assistant master at the Cooper's Company's School, and the victim of a German mine explosion between Souchez and Givenchy on the 30th April, 1916. Pitt's letters are notable for their account of the activities of a Trench Mortar Battery unit on the front lines, recounting the traditional movements in and out of the dug-outs undertaken by the shelling infantry on the French war-fields throughout early 1916.
