8vo. xxii, [2], 389pp, [7]. With five engraved plates and a terminal table of diseases. Later red cloth boards, with gilt-tooled green morocco lettering-piece pasted to spine. Lightly rubbed and marked, spine sunned, foot of lower joint starting. Contemporary inked ownership inscriptions of Thomas Hayes to first blank fly-leaf; additional manuscript inscription, partially removed, to head of title. Initial leaves heavily browned; lighter browning, staining, and spotting throughout.
The first edition, published under the headline of 'Crosby's improved edition', of an early nineteenth century medical manual proudly proclaiming itself an enlargement of Nicholas Culpeper's (1616-1654) The English Physitian (1652), and advertising an additional 'three hundred and sixty-nine medicines' atop the household staple's original collection of herbal and vegetable remedies.
