The sole edition of a literary study of the town of Lyme Regis, Dorset, in relation to the works of Jane Austen, being primarily the work of Richard Arthur Austen-Leigh (1872-1961), grandson of Austen's nephew and biographer, James Edward Austen-Leigh (1798-1894), who adapted the drafts of his late sister, Emma Austen-Leigh, into this fully-fledged sequel to her previous topographical studies, Jane Austen and Steventon (1837) and Jane Austen and Bath (1839). The volume, comprised of a historical and topographical study of the town, analysis of Austen's 1804 letter from Lyme, and some further identification of several locations and characters across the novelist's work which may serve as allusions to the coastal settlement, also features five photographic plates capturing Lyme's distinctive rural architecture.
