The first edition of historian John Oldmixon's (1672/3-1742) life of John Somers, Baron Somers (1651-1716), jurist and Whig politician who, during an often turbulent career, served as Lord High Chancellor under William III, and as a primary architect of the union of 1707 between England and Scotland.
