A remarkably well-preserved copy of the first edition (issued in 1897, with title pages postdated 1898) of this scarce sporting plate book, illustrated by William Nicholson (1872-1949), with text by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936). The 12 marvellous plates, one for each month, depict: Hunting (January), Coursing (February), Racing (March), Boating (April), Fishing (May), Cricket (June), Archery (July), Coaching (August), Shooting (September), Golf (October), Boxing (November) and Skating (December).
